Remember the days when someone who drank a beer day-after-day did not raise eyebrows? Or when somebody who consumed a drink or 2 at lunch during a weekday was not presumed to have a boozing trouble?

Drinking figures, particularly amidst University pupils, have varied significantly since then.On average, pupils are boozing to a lesser extent – as a matter of fact,Fifteen% of all students do not booze the least bit. As an alternative from Dispersing our boozing out across the full week,Even so, more or less of us nowadays carry through our boozing till the weekend and head out on a ?binge?. Boozing excessively often during these social occasion are turning amore common occurrence, and can extend to a dangerous circumstance that has been sweeping across the UK – acute alcohol poisoning.

Acute alcohol poisoning occurs more often than most of us actully realize, and it is happening on a day to day basis. Anytime students drink too much, alcohol begins to act as a poison to the body. If thier lucky they will simply pass out at this stage. This is the body?s way of preventing us from drinking any more. When we drink too much too fast, however, our bodies can skip the passing-out stage and go straight into a coma and death, sorry but its true.

So how do we know how much is ?too much??

Acute alcohol poisoning is often linked to those late night drinking games and birthday celebrations where the birthday boy?s friends buys him or her a shot over and over.

These friendly events can and do kill people. Stop for a minute and imagine what it would be like to know that the friend you encouraged to down nineteen shots last night didn?t wake up this morning, and will never wake up ever again. This is a terrifying thought for most people, but there are things you can learn and do that will help prevent it from ever becoming a reality for you.

You need to acknowledge that people who have acute alcohol poisoning frequently have cold, clammy, pale, or bluish skin. Their taking a breath often decelerates to around eight breaths per minute or they may develop an irregular breathing pattern. Anybody who’s been boozing and is unconscious and can?t be wakened is most likly in danger from alcohol poisoning, or of vomiting while ?sleeping”, and then simply chocking to death on it.

Whenever you make out any of these signs in somebody who you know has been boozing, you need to act at once to save their lives. You need to

do something now . There have been too many occasions when a affectionate acquaintance has aided a drunkard to bed to ?catch some Z’s?, only to find them dead in the morning.

It does not count whenever the drinker is underage or not supposed to drink for whatever reason. If you suspect someone may be suffering from acute

alcohol poisoning, call an ambulance. Don?t ask

twenty people for their opinion before you do this

you could cost your friend their life. Next, use the Bacchus Maneuver to roll them into the recovery position so they won?t choke if they vomit.

If they stop breathing, administer rescue breathing immediately. And stay with the person until

medical help arrives.

Acute alcohol poisoning does happen on our campus. If a friend of yours is putting themselves sat risk for acute alcohol poisoning, let them know you think they should stop drinking and why. Become aware of the signs of alcohol poisoning and know how to respond – by doing so, we can prevent the tragic and unnecessary death of a fellow student or friend.

(not to be taken too serious)

As a student your funds are limited, no let me change that, very limited. Limited to the point where you’re living, 6 out of 7 days off baked beans. Then, for a treat, you get a McDonalds on the 7th day. A major part of university life is basically drinking, drinking and, you guessed it! Drinking. However, being on such a tight income doesn’t simply mean that you can’t partake in the delights of the alcohol-fuelled culture now does it. It does mean that you can’t go out every night drinking double JD’s and fancy cocktails with names that sound like sexual positions. It just means you’ve got to learn the purified art of the “Broke Booze Bash”.

Here are some great ways to get you drunk, or if you?re a light weight, plastered without breaking the bank. Some of them are less savoury than others, but when you’re spending a tenner instead of fifty quid to get drunk you won’t be in any state to notice!
Purchase a hipflask

Hipflasks are those things that usually old men and teachers carry around to “wet their whistle” (as they like to say when questioned), during games of golf and lessons where they know no-ones listening. Not the most cool way of boozing you think?. However these people although old are very wise and have probably had a few times themselves where they’ve not had a lot of cash. Take a leaf out of their book, if you buy a hipflask or a Thermos you can carry your own, pre-paid booze with you anywhere! As ASDA say why pay more? Some of them even come with things to attach them to your leg so you don’t have to worry about hiding it in your handbag or in your pockets. Fill one of these up with your own ?3 a bottle Tesco Value vodka and sneak off to the toilets when you need a swig. To avoid suspicion order a coke up at the bar, drink half and sneakily pour in some of the contents, yes sneakily, not in plain sight. You can easily pour in a double, which will save you around ?4 a drink! Now, wouldn’t your parents be pleased at you saving all that money? See on your way to money management already.
Shop around

Even though you probably visit all the pubs in your local area on a girls or lads’ night-out, you’re probably too drunk to realise how much things cost, or if you?re totally out of it should cost (the might partake in overcharging if they think you wont remember). During lunch periods or in your own spare time go to each pub (not all at once as you will be too drunk to understand what they are talking about) and ask how much your drink of choice is. Write it down and stick it up on the fridge in your halls detailing the pub, how far it is away, the price of the drink (or drinks) and marks out of ten for atmosphere. This way you have a definitive and personal guide to what pubs sell what, how much it costs and everyone you give the list to will become your new best friend and they can thank you with?. Booze! After checking the bank balance and talking to your flatmates, roommates or to yourself if your crazy, you can make an informed decision as to which pub you will be going to tonight and how much you can spend.

?
Set a limit and stick to it

We all know the story, at the cash point you took out ?50, and said the phrase “just in case” and you ended up spending every penny. You’ve got no money left for your bus pass to university and you end up missing a week’s lectures, later finding out you?ve missed the most important week. DON’T let this happen. Set yourself a limit before you go out, only take this amount of money and leave all cash cards and credit cards at home. Take ?10 for emergencies and don’t TOUCH IT, padlock it. If anything, give it to a trustworthy friend to look after so it doesn’t get spent. If you run out of money either roll your skirt up and make a beeline for a guy wearing an YSL shirt or get a taxi home (hopefully your mate hasn?t already left with you money). Your head and stomach as well as your bank account will thank you for it tomorrow.
Make yourself drop dead gorgeous

This is one for the girls only? . . . . I guess. Get on your best glad rags and tart yourself up to the extreme. Tarty is good, the best infact. When men are drunk they lose all sense of their wallets and will gladly buy you a drink, two drinks, three drinks and more. Though a note to the wise, go up with them to the bar (date rape is still a problem) and after they buy you the drink thank them and say “I better go find my boyfriend” and run off as fast as your 6 inch stilettos will let you. It’s not half as fun if you have to snog a minger(yes I know the terms gotten old but meh)!
Start drinking as early as you can

This one is probably best kept for the weekend as I’m sure lecturers, although used to it, would resent anybody turning up for a lecture on the “Rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire” stinking of Special Brew. Buy in lots of cheap alcohol the day before and every time you want something to drink, down a shot of vodka. Do it slowly however, so that for the majority of the day you are happily tipsy. One per half an hour should do the trick with a break from 5 to 7. Then with your trusty hipflask, go out! Because you have been drinking all day it should be easier to get into and take less time to get really drunk.
Don’t eat anything for 3 hours before you go out

Attempt this with caution, if you get very drunk and are sick, more likely than not you’ll throw up your stomach fluids. And, if one has been drinking WKD blue or strange cocktails, it will be a strange colour.

If you have nothing in your stomach to absorb the alcohol, then you will be drunk quicker. This is also useful if you are trying to sober up, eat some bread. It will make you become slightly more sober and that way you have a better chance of fooling your parents you?re not drunk as you stumble up the stairs.

Most students don?t mind admitting that doing their own laundry is something that they find a struggle when they first go to university. In most cases it is something that your mum or a carer has probably been doing for you for all of your life. Even if you do some yourself then it can be a big change having to do it all: sort, wash, dry, iron, fold and put away- it can seem a bit of a nightmare. But there?s no need to worry, we?re here to help and with our simple guide you will be a pro in no time.

Basic machine washing:

Now, we can?t really help you as much with this one as all washing machines are different. However, some simple tips to help you ensure that you don?t have disasters are as follows:

Always check the label: Some clothes will not be machine washable (the little bucket symbol with a cross through). They will usually be hand wash only or dry-clean only if not. The temperature of your wash will be determined by how many dots are in the bucket symbol- one dot and you need a cool wash, two dots a warm wash and three dots a hot wash. A cool wash is 30?C, a warm wash is 40?C and a hot wash is 60?C. Sometimes it will tell you the temperature within the bucket but if not the above temperatures will be appropriate. Delicates such as underwear go in a cool wash and towels and suchlike a hot wash, pretty much everything else is fine on warm. (Remember the cooler wash you can do the better it is for the environment, a lot of washing powders now can be used on a cool wash but still provide brilliant cleaning so switch down if possible.)

Separate whites from colours: We?ve all seen the films where somebody slips a red sock in with their whites and the whole thing comes out pink. To avoid this make sure that you wash whites separately and group colours together in terms of how vivid they are (e.g. pastels in one wash and brights in another). If you want to be extra safe then you can invest in colour catcher sheets which will absorb any excess colour that comes out in the wash and helps avoid any accidents.

Wash size: Don?t overfill your machine as your washing won?t come out very clean, about ? full is perfect and more energy efficient too.

Washing powders: For money conscious students there are washing powders with built in fabric softener so you only have to buy one product. Generally there will be a good range of cheap washing powders available so either grab what is on offer or experiment until you find a smell you like that does the job too. Use the amount as stated on the pack.

Dry Clean Only:

It can be a pain to find a laundrette to get all your dry cleaning done and have time to pick it up too. It doesn?t really fit into a student budget too well either, so an option that is easier on the pocket is to buy Dryel or a similar product. You use this with your dryer and your dry clean only clothes and it does the same job as the laundrette does. If it?s a special occasion it is probably worth splashing out to get it done properly but there are products out there which allow you to do it yourself easily so have a look around the aisles of your local supermarket.

Hand Wash Only:

It is sometimes possible to wash hand wash items in your washing machine if you use a gentle cycle but to ensure that they don?t get damaged then it is best to do them in your sink. There are various products out there (such as Woolite) that will allow you to specifically do a hand wash, but you can use a normal liquid or powder if you ensure that you only use a fraction (less than half) of the amount you would for a usual wash for a fairly large quantity of clothing. A bucket or sink is the best place to do a handwash and you can just leave them to soak in warm water for half an hour or longer if needed.

Tumble Drying:

Make sure that your clothes can be tumble dried (a circle inside a square) before you try it. Usually wool clothing can?t so don?t even try it unless you have a doll or teddy bear that would like new clothes. If they are fine then put them in for different times according to the item. Towels will take longer (about 50 minutes), items like jeans 40 minutes and other clothing such as T-Shirts 30 minutes. If they are still damp then just put them on for a little longer. Once they are out then iron and they are ready to wear.

Air Dry, Flat Dry or Hang Dry Only:

If you don?t have access to a clothes line you can wring out the excess moisture and then put these types of garments on hangers. Put the hangers on a clothes rack or coat rack (anything you can hang them on out in the open, not in your wardrobe) and maybe put a towel underneath to catch any drips. They should be fine to iron once dry. We recommend you don?t leave flat dry items out on somebody else’s bed or in an open area such as the kitchen as you might annoy your housemates or risk something getting spilled on them.

Ironing:

Check the label of your clothes to make sure that you can iron them (if not the little iron symbol will have a cross through it) and the temperature that it says to use. To iron shirts it is easiest to pull the shoulders down into the corner of the ironing board (so it is as if the ironing board is your back inside the shirt, and the shirt is flat across it) as this will help you reach all the areas. For most other types of clothing it is simple enough anyway. Just make sure you avoid any motifs (particularly stick on ones) and just work around them. If there is one then you can turn the item inside out and it will probably be ok to iron over gently. Once ironed then fold or hang your clothes and they will be ready to wear. If you don?t have an ironing board then use a flat surface and make sure you put a towel down first to avoid any damage.

Stains:

If there are stubborn stains in your clothes that don?t come out in the wash then there are lots of products such as Vanish that you can use to get the stain out. Just rub it over the stain and hand wash it out. If this doesn?t work then products like Stain Devil are made for specific types of stain and so you can just use this according to the instructions and your clothes should be as good as new.

Look before you buy:

The only other tip we will give you is to look at the labels of clothes before you buy them. If they are dry clean only then maybe give them a miss unless you are prepared to do a special wash for them or take them to a laundrette. Ideally you want a lot of clothes that can have the same type of wash as this will make it a whole lot easier for you.

Still struggling to pay off the university loan? Have you disconnected your mobile phone just to avoid those darn creditors? Need a quick get rich scheme? Well? Maybe not that but in this article you will find some practical ways on saving money while attending university.

Books

University book prices have been rising along with the cost of tuition, and it is no wonder why so many students have resorted to photocopying their texts. Instead of photocopying why not buy an old edition book, all the information that you will need to know is there and you can keep that book as a reference. It’s not like the gravitational acceleration of earth is going to change with the new edition? Right?

Too broke to buy book then try to find your books at the local library, not the school’s library. You will be amazed at how many books you will find at the local library, not only is it convenient but is also cheap. True, if you borrow a book for a semester it would cost you a late fee but I mean who cares right, since the ?5 late fee charge is nothing when compared to ?50 price tag of a new book price.

Another upcoming trend in universities these days is the trend for students to rent their books. I guess these students probably wanted to keep their books as reference or may still need them for the following year and thought they could make some extra cash by renting them out. If you are thinking about renting then its best to rent to people that you know, and always have a legal signed document.

Always try to buy used. Many universities now have a book buy back program, and these books can be found at the university used book room. Also, there are a ton of online book exchange sites on the net which are both free and convenient.

When to buy used & when to buy new? Good question. My rule is this, if a book is say like 4 years old then its best to buy used. The only time I recommend buying new is if the book is less than 4 years old, since it is more likely to being the latest edition, and you know for sure that the same edition is going to be used next term. This way you can sell your books for the maximum profit.

Food

Instead of buying a pop, from the local vending machine why not just buy a case of 24 to store at your locker or? room. You will be amazed at how much you will save when you buy in bulk. Another way of saving on food is to visit your friend’s fridge on a daily basis and when ever possible try to attend to any free food locations (parties, club meetings? etc) on campus.

Clothing

Instead of buying those brand new “check marked” shoes, why not save your money for something that you will really need in university (laptop, books, contraceptives). Try to visit the local thrift store and check Ebay on a daily basis, you will be amazed at how many ?1 t-shirts are out there.

Printing & Photocopying

Many students save money on printing and photocopying by the use of a scanner. The student simply scans what he/she needs and emails the scanned file back to him/her self. Not only will you save money, but will also have an electronic copy of the file which you could later download to your laptop or pda. If you really must print then try not to use the school printing services. Most of the time these services will cost you an extra 5-10p per page,? which could go towards the purchase of a new ink cartridge.

Money

Instead of using a credit card, why not only keep cash in your wallet/purse. Not only does this give an exact measure of how much cash you have at hand, and can spend, but will also avoid you from living above your means.

Apart from that you could also try finding a part time job on campus, not only will you get some extra cash but will also gain some valuable experience that you can put on your resume.

1. Take a break.

Take time to absorb your research, take a nap or give it a day. Personally I like to get really comfortable while reading my notes then drift off at certain points and wake up and continue, this then gives your mind time to process the new information and come up with more original ideas and ofc stops you from getting too tired.

2. Set goals for yourself.

You know the time you have for your exams, so when doing test essays set yourself goals of completions that test you, for example, if you have an hour try and do it in 50 minutes so you have spare time to re read and add to and then you can pass this on into your real tests , try and give yourself around 2 minutes below the allowed time to re-read your essay (cannot stress the importance of this enough).

3. Write an outline for your paper (Revision Plan).

To get your mind focused, it?s always best to work from an outline (revision plan). Your revision plan is a starting point to help you think about how your paper will be constructed and how you will connect and expand on these areas. If you?re unsure of how to do this, try and find example answers and see the structure of how they formed their answers.

4. Don?t think too hard. Just write.

Use the information that?s already in your head on your first run through, this way you?ll be able to identify areas your lacking in your knowledge. After you write your first ?off the top of my head? essay then you can start revision the areas you?re weak on.

5. Write down every idea.

Don?t disregard your ideas use them all, even if they don?t fit well. Once you have all these ideas down you can then re-read your essay and then write out notes on these areas of how to include them (or if their well off topic) or disregard them, sometimes a remote idea can be original enough that you will pick up some marks for originality and analytical thinking.

6. Talk about it.

One of the best ways to get the information stuck in your head is talking about the subject with friends. The smart only stay smart because everyone?s always asking them questions . . . . well maybe not 100% talking but a good %20 of your revision should be based around talking, heck make a revision group.

7. If you get stuck.

If you get stuck while writing down your test essay don?t get mad, take a break and mull over the work you?ve done or switch to another subject and come back to it. Not all brilliant ideas will come at once and you?ll find new fresh ideas start to come back to you after a short break.

Don?t run on one revision technique, you?re brain is composed of many areas so use them all and see our other sections. Mix and match and find your ideal technique.

StudentStyle.net was launched amid fanfare recently, targeting the university students. The site is slated to be an online guide to “surviving university” and is touted to be the next big thing in the sphere of online guides. Tyrone Campbell, the creator of StudentStyle.net said, ?The website will be an immense help for students who are going into college or university and want to learn a bit about what they will face.?

From the look of it, Mr Campbell seems to have scored an ace with the students already with the high number of advertisements it has already garnered. The site is going to be all about students and their life inside the university campus. It will offer them tips to earn money even as they learn, and how to cope up with their college curriculum, and other research requirement. The idea behind the site sure looks ambitious enough.

StudentStyle.net was originally made to be an easy reference to all other sites that helped the young students get to some other website links in order to earn an extra buck. But as Mr. Campbell started developing the website, he realized that a full fledged website that could look into all aspects of the students’ need right from earning money to inspiring new entrepreneurial activities was very much needed. Thus an idea gave way to the current website of Mr. Campbell and students are enjoying the site already. The site is designed to offer tips and guidance on studying and other academic requirements, cooking and making new recipes, budgeting their expense in the University – especially for those students who stay away from home, and offering a comprehensive update on the best quality shopping sites. This is going to be the complete information package for university students as it showcases the information on student budgeting, university information, and research articles for students, student revision, etc.

Most of the students need information that is tailor made for them and are extremely use specific. That is why a dedicated website that addresses all their concerns is extremely important. Students spend most of the time searching a lot of information that single handedly addresses their needs. When it comes to looking out for places wherein students can find cheap but quality material for their shopping activity, StudentStyle.net is an ideal place. Students are also in constant need to search the names of books, and other research papers that are required by the university for their course and curriculum. StudentStyle.net offers this information too, online, making it easy for the students to know the details of their course materials and other relevant details at the click of a mouse. StudentStyle.net offers complete guide to student revising techniques that help the student get some edge over the traditional ways of learning. Most of the students who attend the university come from different places, and it becomes imperative for them to understand a thing or two about student budgeting. StudentStyle.net offers the most comprehensive articles on student budgeting written by people who have been there and done that. Their expert advises on budgeting are a key attraction on the site.

As of now, StudentStyle.net offers articles on Recipes For Students, Roommate Problems, Safe Sex Advice, Student Budgeting, Student Cooking Tips, Student Job Advice, Student Revision, Student Shopping, Student Articles, University Costs. In the future Mr. Campbell intends to expand the core educational section of the website into several academic and more study related topics and comprise the research material, the best Articles for students.
